Puppy & Dog Training Classes in South Wales

A rewarding part of puppy & dog ownership is successfully training them. Training is an excellent way to bond and will help you build a good relationship. I have partnered up with trainer Gary Mathlin (APDT Member 01398) and we are currently offering Puppy & Adult Dog Training Pontllanfraith at The Dog Spa.

The classes are open to all dogs, young or old, pedigree or crossbreed. We have different knowledge & backgrounds so you’ll get the best of both worlds! There is often a waiting list so booking to secure your place in advance is advisable. Our classes are restricted to 8 dogs/puppies and we must have at least 6 in the class.

All puppies & dogs can benefit from learning some basic cues. Our training classes can help you with the basics of how to train your pups, adolescents and adults, including more advanced methods such as clicker training.

If the basics such as sit, down, stay and leave are what you're looking for - look no further... we can also guide you through the practicalities of using them in "real life" You will hear many dog owners exclaiming their dog was wonderful in class but now (insert name here) is a lunatic! Having these basic cues trained properly gives you the freedom to do the things together, like running off lead and coming with you to meet friends and family for days out, while being safe and under control.

Puppies & dogs are intelligent animals and most love to learn so training can be a great way of stopping them from getting bored.

How do puppies learn?

All training the training techniques we provide you with are reward based. Giving your puppy something they really like such as food, toys or praise when they show a particular behaviour means that they are more likely to do it again.

It's important to find out what your puppy really likes and what their favourite things are. Favourite treats are often small pieces of meat or cheese. The better the reward the more your puppy will enjoy training and learning.

We also want to bring handlers and their dogs together with fun activities & sports. So keep an eye out for our up and coming 'Agility & Canine Hoopers' starter classes.

As qualified trainers we can advise you on behavioural issues outside of class such as excessive barking, resource guarding, destructiveness and phobias. As dog training instructors, it’s our job to turn owners into trainers for their pets.
